U.P. Michigan Fishing Report
September 26th, 2025Almost October here in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, feels more like August though! We had one week of cool temps and then unseasonable warm temps has been the norm. Unlike lower MI, our rivers have been full of water, some streams saw massive flows over the past few weeks with heavy rains. Currently our rivers are in a good place with most rivers having ideal flows.
Trout fishing has been quite good, resident Brook and Brown Trout have been active and feeding on a variety of options. Dry fly fishing has been good at times, terrestrials have been productive which is a fun way to fish. Streamer fishing has also been a great way to target prespawn fish.
Smallmouth Bass and Muskie fishing has been going strong. Smallmouth have been primarily feeding on baitfish but the surface bite is still going on some days. Some nice Muskies to the net recently, subsurface and topwater has been getting grabs.
The Salmon run has been a somewhat trickle of fish. Water temps are still quite warm but some fish have made it upstream. Both Coho and Chinook Salmon are available. Look for their numbers to increase as water temps drop & hopefully some more rain comes our way. Also some Pink Salmon are available in select streams, a unique fish to our region.
Congrats to all our recent guests on some outstanding fish, great work! Open dates are still available, winter is coming so let’s get out fishing!
