RIVERS NORTH UPPER PENINSULA FISHING REPORT!

Atlantic Salmon fishing on the St.Marys River is slowing down over the past week.

July 25th, 2008

Mass amounts of Hex & warming water temps have fish selective & spreading out throughout the entire river system. Nymphing is still productive @ times, but be prepared to put in lots of hours for a few chances. Our focus is now mainly on the spring creeks of the U.P. for resident Brook & Brown Trout. Terrestrial activity is starting & some fun fishing is just beginning. This time of the year the Trout take full advantage of a grasshopper floating by on the surface! Also on cloudy days streamer fishing can still get some interest. Come up & enjoy some Yooper sunshine instead of traffic jams in the city!

Atlantic Salmon fishing has the St.Marys River here in the U.P. remains strong as fish numbers are still increasing!

July 14th, 2008

Atlantic Salmon fishing has the St.Marys River here in the U.P. remains strong as fish numbers are still increasing! This past week we were boating fish that have been in the river for some time, as well as fresh fish. Take a look @ the one close up pic of the male Atlantic Salmon-already beginning to get a "bottlenose" spawning characteristic. Pretty unique! Both streamers and nymphs have been productive-but most fish are keying in on nymphs. Some Hex have been beginning to show up as water temps reach the 60 degree mark. Hex should be increasing daily for the next week or so. Good fishing should exist on the St.Marys for some time as the weather should stay stable & water temps won’t raise drastically. This week we are back in the central U.P. targeting resident Trout-water levels/temps are great for this time of the summer due to a more normal year of precipitation/temps & fishing has been nothing short of stellar. Cahills & Caddis are the primary bugs up top & Trout have been very willing to take streamers & nymphs subsurface! Some remaining good dates for the St.Marys still exist as well as mid summer Trout fishing here in the central U.P.-head up for a well deserved vacation!

Atlantic Salmon Fishing on the St.Marys River remains strong…

July 9th, 2008

Atlantic Salmon Fishing on the St.Marys River remains strong as a good number of fish are curently present. Streamer fishing and nymphing has been very productive over the past week as water temps in the low 60’s have varying Mayflies and Caddis active. Fishing pressure was very high over the holiday weekend with the beautiful weather we received-nonetheless it was great to feel some summer like weather after dealing with cold weather for months!! Trout fishing also reamisn very good with the cold nights-Cahills, BWO’s, & Caddis have fish looking up for a meal. More nice weather in the forecast for the next week-a great time to get uo to the U.P. for a vacation!

Atlantic Salmon fishing here on the St.Marys River in the U.P. has been good…

July 3rd, 2008

Atlantic Salmon fishing here on the St.Marys River in the U.P. has been good this past week as water temps have warmed slightly & a good amount of aquatic insects are present. A variety of bugs such as Caddis, BWO’s & midges have been providing for a change in the diet versus the baitfish the Atlantics have been keyed into for some time. Some great fish came to the net this week making for some lifelong memories! More heavy storms have come through over the past few days-river levels across the U.P. are rising & staining a bit. This rain we have received this year is great for resident Trout populations & Lake Superior water levels. Trout fishing remains very good across the U.P.-lots of options this time of the year! Salmo Salar & wild Trout-sounds like a good time to head to the U.P.!
