RIVERS NORTH UPPER PENINSULA FISHING REPORT!

Summer’s End?

August 25th, 2012

Fall is definitely in the air up here, a few mornings have been in the lower 40’s which gives the feel that Autumn is not far off.  In the meantime Smallmouth & their warm water pals remain fairly active.  Colder water temps are now present & fish have responded accordingly.  The U.P. is actually at or above our normal precipitation for the summer months, but some streams are low at this time.  Get out & enjoy the last few weeks of Summer here in the this beautiful place we call home :)

Cooler weather has been present and water temps have responded to be at a pretty normal seasonal level.  Some nice rains have also passed through the Upper Peninsula that delivered a much needed shot of water, stream levels vary depending upon location.  An eventful week to say the least, I was able to spend a day fishing w friends Jerry Darkes of Scott Fly Rods, Patagonia & Scientific Anglers as well as fellow river guide Jamie Clous of downstate Old AuSable Fly shop.  Both work for cutting edge industry leaders that offer the very best in the business, be sure to visit their sites for info on products & services.  Also ultra congrats to angler Chris B on doing everything right to make sure the Musky below did not get away :)  A true trophy on the fly, 45 1/2 inches and an estimated weight of over 25 lbs-Yes Sir!

Also great news on the U.P. Brook Trout limit increase proposal, Michigan DNR is NOT recommending the creel limit increase.  Still some work to do, but it is looking good for the conservation minded folks! Click here for info.
